Idris Elba as Gordon Cozier
Elba continued with the action route in his fourth collaboration with Rainforest Films, and he was at the front and center of the large ensemble (poster billing be damned) as the leader of a group of bank robbers forced to pull one especially dangerous heist. As is the usual reductive laziness of most mainstream movie media, the role and scenario prompted comparisons of Elba to George Clooney, but while he most certainly can coolly orchestrate a heist and suavely sport suits at least as well as he can, to make such an analogy is to do a disservice to how Elba makes a similar part uniquely his own. Again, his physical presence cuts a suitably striking figure for an action leader, but the shrewd intelligence he also projects makes his Gordon Cozier just as much an intimidating force in a match of wits. That alone would be enough to fit the bill for such a genre enterprise, but he makes the most of a subplot concern involving Gordon's troubled recovering addict sister, adding some finer shadings and dimensions to could have easily been a standard tough guy criminal type into someone more believably, relatably human.
