Idris Elba as Roque
Given his imposing, intimidating physicality, it's a wonder that the Joel Silver-produced, Sylvain White-directed film of the cult comic book was Elba's first straight-up action film, and it goes without saying that he looks the part and is more than convincing as part of a CIA black ops squad. While it is fun to watch him get to shoot the guns and get down and dirty literally and figuratively in trenches also both literal and figurative, his role as demolition specialist Roque does take some intriguing turns that give him many more interesting notes to play than just a simple supporting team member to Jeffrey Dean Morgan's leader. In fact, he showed perhaps how much more interesting the part of the leader would've been had he been cast there instead--but no matter, for he would head a team in an action vehicle soon enough (see next film)...
