The 2008 edition of the Hollywood Black Film Festival, held from June 3-8, found the annual event enjoying a slight change of scenery on Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, with the Writers Guild Theatre sitting in for the usual flagship venue of the Fine Arts Theatre, which was temporarily closed due to renovation work. No less than 119 feature and short films, both narrative and documentary, by professional and student filmmakers from around the globe screened at the WGA Theatre and on two of the three screens at the adjacent Laemmle's Music Hall during the six-day festival.
The festival's celebrated Infotainment Conference remained based at the Clarity Theatre, where motion picture industry professionals such as Cedric the Entertainer and filmmakers Preston Whitmore, Christopher Erskin, and Kevin Bray were among the participants in this series of discussion panels, conferences, and workshops for up-and-coming filmmakers and actors.
