Demonstrations of the ongoing technical evolution of exhibition technology were the driving issue 2012 edition of the National Association of Theatre Owners' CinemaCon, the annual convention for theatre owners across the country and the globe, held April 23-26 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Advancements both audio (laser light projection and a fair amount of controversy--as did, as usual, footage from upcoming releases from major studios. For the first time in many years, all of the major studios--Warner Bros., Sony, Universal plus mini-major CinemaCon, as various industry-related seminars occurred throughout the week, not to mention the larger-than-ever industry trade show featuring the latest products for motion picture exhibition, from seats and projection and sound systems to various food offerings for the concession stand.
