The 2007 edition of Film Life's American Black Film Festival, held on October 25-28, marked the festival's first year taking place in the film capital of Los Angeles after previously being held in Acapulco, Mexico (1997-2001, during which the event was named the Acapulco Black Film Festival) and Miami (2002-2006). Despite the less than ideal primary screening venue of the Mann Beverly Center Cinemas, the mix of films, panels, and other special events was without question a great success, going a long way toward achieving head Jeff Friday's goal of announcing to the mainstream Hollywood community what a vital event this is--and can continue to be in the future--to the motion picture industry at large.
